The History (and Future) of Nelis Customs
Nelis Customs was founded by owner Greg Nelis in June of 2008 after many years of R&D, market research, and thousands of hours of training fueled by the desire to provide what we felt was missing from the market being avid boaters ourselves and not satisfied with what the market had to offer at the time. While not exactly the resume of a canvas & upholstery shop owner, Greg has a decade's worth of engineering experience and project management skills that help put Nelis Customs a step above the average provider of these services capable of handling everything from a simple boat cover to a complex remodeling project as part of a general contracting team.
The main purpose of Nelis Customs is to provide Customizable Service for Custom Applications while handling everything from one off projects to larger scale design and implementation of production products capable of handling all of the necessary aspects from prototype design to production implementation on whatever your needs are.
Regardless of whether you are interested in a new boat cover, redesigning the interior of your restaurant, repairing your car's upholstery, or having something you've dreamed up put into reality, our goal is to exceed the expectations of our customers EVERY TIME in both quality of service and the quality of the delivered product. Our services are tailored to the needs of our customers and our designs are open for modification so that we can provide exactly what you want and perform the service in a manner that best suits your needs.
Nelis Customs started by offering marine canvas in June of 2008 after attending a series of Canvas Training Workshops to learn techniques that we feel are second to none. These techniques take into account the suggested manufacturing and usage guidelines provided by each manufacturer's fabric along with above average techniques applied to ensure the lifespan of each product is maximized. We have always refused to sub-par materials and believe that while some materials used are overkill, we'd rather error on the safe side to ensure your overall satisfaction lasts beyond the lifespan of your chosen fabric.
In the fall of 2008, Nelis Customs began offering upholstery services in addition to marine canvas and rapidly expanded into all avenues of upholstery from marine, contract & hospitality, and sports equipment to name a few.
One of our specialties is and has always been our Custom approach to serving our customer's needs by providing unlimited flexibility in order to meet the needs of customers such as businesses that cannot open their doors without having their upholstery or equipment in their hands, and do not have to close their doors because it is in our shop for repairs. We meet these needs by offering everything from weekend turnaround schedules for doctor and dentist offices to overnight turnaround for restaurants open 7 days a week.
Always looking to adapt and expand our reach, in the fall of 2009 Nelis Customs purchased a brand new Haulmark 20' Enclosed car hauler which we are outfitting to be a self sufficient Mobile Canvas & Upholstery Operation to expand our service area and increase the speed of service at remote locations. Starting in the spring of 2010, our remote operation will be fully operational and equipped with everything necessary to handle virtually any job and powered by its own on board generator to handle circumstances where electricity is not readily available. The only limitation will be your imagination and the necessary permission to bring our services to your marina or business location.
